Joan is an extremely competent and intelligent lady who knew exactly what she wanted to achieve from the very first time she contacted us at Unique Biographies. We have been interested to see how Joan’s biography became a force to be reckoned with and grew extensively to 60,000 words. The finished product is a beautiful, stylish and elegant publication.

For many years, Joan had been researching her family history and had a vast wealth of information for us to form the foundation of her book. As Joan’s heritage is Irish, we began in Ireland in the late 1800s and documented the immigration of her ancestors to Australia. The following stories of how they settled and survived, complete with their dramatic personalities, challenges and success, are quite amazing.

We progressed to Joan's personal journey through life which included her experience of excessive loss during World War II. For those of us who have not had to experience these tough and incredibly difficult times, the insight into these periods of war are priceless.

Joan’s first connection to aviation was very early in life when an aircraft crashed into the back yard of her family home when she was very young! Her relationship with flying has remained constant throughout her life with many close personal friends who were pilots during the war and Joan herself was one of the first Air Hostesses with ANA. While flying, she met and married a distinguished pilot who went on to fly with Swiss Air. Being a pilot's wife brought Joan worldwide travel with many varied experiences and interesting anecdotes to share in her book.

It transpired that while we were writing Joan’s story she arranged a trip to visit the places where her ancestors had lived. This enabled us to include her experiences there. This really complemented her biography. After documenting the lives of her ancestors, we were able to add Joan’s personal adventure where she met descendants of her family and visited their historic homes. This was a lovely individual addition.

It has been a pleasure to assist Joan in the journey of writing her life story.
